Pregnancy is such a special time in your life and the beginning of an amazing journey for a woman to become a mother or a couple to become a family.
My aim is to create a timeless memory for you in a style that won't age, captured both tastefully and thoughtfully. I mention this because whilst pregnancy is such a gift, I fully appreciate there are at times that it might not feel so magical and that it can also be when us mums can feel vulnerable, self-conscious or perhaps the road to get to this point has been a long one. I strive to tell your story with beautiful images that bring out your individual inner beauty and to capture your excitement, apprehension and hopes for your new baby.
It's your shoot so you can push the boundaries as little or as much as you would like. Want a full Demi Moore classic pose? (showing my age now, google it) Let’s do it! Want just pics of your bump, no problem. I'll work with you and we'll look at images together to help find your style and what you feel comfortable with.
I will also help you pose and direct you to help you look your absolute best. You are in very safe hands and we’ll have lots of fun along the way.
The best time to have a shoot is between 30-36 weeks pregnant. Expectant mothers with twins would normally have their pictures a little earlier but for all mothers to be, it really is about when you are feeling at your best with a lovely sized bump to show off.
I’ve got outfits that you can use at the studio, the majority of the
dresses you see here are mine. I’ll also send you an inspiration Pinterest board and what to bring/wear guide once you’ve booked in so we’ll make sure you have everything you need.
I will also help you pose and direct you to help you look your absolute best. You are in very safe hands and we’ll have lots of fun along the way.
It's lovely for second-time mums to bring along their little ones and include them in the photos and your partner as well if you wish!
If you have any stretch marks or blemishes these can be removed in post-production, should you wish. Some people call these their war wounds, other people would rather forget about them. It's your choice!
You’ll find my newborn studio in Billericay, Essex. Newborn photoshoots really are a once in a lifetime opportunity, very often captured in the first week or so of your babies life. My job to capture the first of a lifetime of memories for you is a true privilege.
During a session with me, babies needs always come first and I am always led by them. Listening to the little cues that let me know that they’re super comfy or that they are starting to get hungry etc and their needs comes first always without exception. Whilst I might have a little workflow in mind, babies very often have other ideas and that’s no problem, we’ll work at their pace.
So let’s talk about the different kind of sessions as newborn photography can sometimes be a bit of a minefield when you're comparing different photographers and packages. Before I explain my own packages further - all of my sessions include all of the professionally edited digital images (circa 20-45 depending on the session that you select) so no agonising decisions about which ones to pick, hard sales or spending more money than you was expecting. It’s all included.
The sleepy up to 3 1/2 hour sessions
The clearly posed images where the baby is fast asleep that you’ll see in some of my images, normally form part of the longer sleepy session. We lull baby into a lovely deep sleep to gently pose them into those curly positions without waking them up. It takes time and patience because baby needs to be in a deep sleep and my parents are always surprised at how much work and detail goes into these sessions. We won’t just focus on the sleepy poses though and well also do simple shots with baby wrapped, awake shots etc so I get as much variety as possible within your gallery. Not all babies want to sleep throughout the session and that’s completely fine and that’s why I aim for a variety of images.
In an ideal world, these particular sessions take place within the first 10 days of your baby arriving This is really important because they are still in the super sleepy stage and still very curled up and can be gently posed whilst sleeping. Book in anytime from your 20 week scan to secure your slot as I can only take on a certain number of newborns each month and so often I get messages after babies have arrived and I then can’t fit them in so please please book in advance.
90 mins/2 hour Packages
These sessions don’t contain the sleepy posed images. We use our time to focus on wrapping baby for a variety of shots and we’ll also do simple natural unposed shots, doesn’t matter if baby is awake or asleep.
The 90 mins package is for images of baby - no parent/sibling shots.
The 2-hour session also allows time for parent and/or sibling shots (it’s super popular for second/third time parents especially if the siblings are young and there’s a need to get in and get out ha ha. There’s also a park less than 5 mins walk from the studio which can be handy once the sibling shots are complete and I can then focus on baby images)
Both of these packages are perfect for babies from brand new newborns up to 6 weeks old although wherever possible I prefer to do these in under 3 weeks if diary /time permits.
For all newborn shoots, I recommend booking well in advance (anytime after your 20 week scan). I have so many people contact me after they’ve had their baby and not realising that they should have booked in beforehand. I’ll always do my best but I just can’t always fit people in and I hate turning people away at such a special time if they've taken the time to choose me as their photographer.
Newborn shoots take place on weekdays unless there are school age older siblings.
My newborn photography studio is in Billericay, Essex
One of my favourite type of shoots! I love capturing families together and my personal preference for a family shoot is to get outside and capture my families just doing what they do best, being a family and enjoying each others company.
We’ll generally go for a bit of a walk at our location and have a bit of fun along the way. Whilst we'll have a few posed shots here and there, my favourite shots nearly always tend to be those ones in-between when those seemingly ordinary moments capture the special relationships within your family.
Outdoor shoots are also perfect for toddler age when studio shoots can be a little challenging! Attention spans can be short in the studio environment and outside we can capture the true spirit of your child - serious, shy, funny, mischievous by just watching them play.
I use lots of local country parks and am really happy to travel up to 25 minutes at no extra cost if you have a particular location in mind. I love seeking out new venues!
Don't worry too much about the weather either - I shoot all year round (although Jan - March can be a little dreary) Cloudy days are literally a photographers dream and make for very flattering photos. We do of course reschedule or have a back up plan if it's raining but even a few rainy shots with some cute umbrellas can be lots of fun.
The best time of day to shoot is generally the photographers favourite “golden hour” an hour or so before sunset if the weather is looking nice. The availability for these sessions won’t show on my booking page so give me a shout but I can do these on lots of week nights.
However I also appreciate, especially with young children that evening sessions just don’t work so first thing in the morning before it gets too bright works perfectly as well.
What a special milestone in your journey! Your baby is turning one and there is no better way to celebrate than with a cake smash!!
We start the shoot with a few fun birthday styled shots using cute chairs and props and then it's onto the mayhem with the cake smash where your little one can taste, throw and roll in the cake if they fancy and the best part is that you don't have to clean it up after! We finish off the session with a splash in the bath which the babies always love and also makes for some extra cute photos to add into your gallery.
We decide on a colour scheme together and then I’ll then design your backdrop set up. All props and outfits are provided and I'm really happy to create bespoke colour schemes and themes.
I’ve partnered up with Billericay based “Katies Cake Kitchen” to make your experience even easier. We’ve designed a simple 8-inch cake perfect for cake smashes available in a variety of colours priced at £25. No more running around to pick up a cake with a baby in tow - I’ll take care of everything for you because you're already rather busy right?! All allergies are catered for at no extra cost. Same with the balloons, if you would like a balloon garland these are professionally made and are £22, they last for 2-3 weeks - perfect for continuing the celebrations at home.
You are also very welcome to bring your own cake!
Cake Smash’s take place on weekdays only - this is due to ensuring myself, the balloon maker and the baker are all available.
After the precious newborn stage, the age that most parents like to record next is the amazing sitting stage (normally around 7-10 months ) when your baby can sit comfortably unaided but isn't crawling around too much.
It's such a great age to photograph as personalities are really emerging and we can get lots of variety in your images rather than having to prop baby up in various set ups as we do at a younger age and cheeky smiles are always very easily achieved with a quick game of peek a boo.
The baby stage in your child's life is gone in just a flash, this is a truly amazing stage to document - chubby arms and legs, smiles on demand, whats not to love!
Your welcome to jump in a couple of the photos as well. I know how hard it is to get decent photos of you all together as a family that aren't a selfie taken on a phone!
If you're looking for timeless, elegant images, a studio shoot is a perfect choice for you. I have a variety of different colour backgrounds to complement your home decor and am more than happy to advise and work with you on clothing options for the shoot.
Studio shoots tend to suit babies up to 1 year or before they can walk (as you'll see in my other galleries) and then from 3 years and upwards. You'll tend to find toddlers (including my own!) can lose interest very quickly which is understandable when they have the big wide world to explore so I very often recommend getting outside with toddlers for their shoots but only you know your child so this is just a guide.
Overall the goal is to make the session fun for your child. I take time to get to know your little one before we start the session. Show them my camera, how it works and tailor the session to your child and go at their pace to ensure that they enjoy the experience which is just as important as capturing lovely images as I always say to my clients that they won't want to display the images in their home if their memories of the day are forcing their child to have their picture taken and its a rule I stick by.
I can also provide child modelling portfolio images.
